Geography provides children with an understanding of places and the environment. As pupils progress through the school they will have opportunities to develop their understanding of locational and place knowledge as well as human and physical geography.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage, this involves the children beginning to make sense of their physical world and community by exploring and observing places and the environment.

In Key Stage 1, the children develop knowledge, skills and understanding that relate to their own environment, but will also begin to develop an awareness of the wider world, including the UK. They will also use the basic vocabulary relating to human and physical geography.

In Key Stage 2, the children develop knowledge, skills and understanding beyond the local area with more focus on the location, characteristics and human/physical features of an area in Europe (Italy) and America (Hawaii). They will also develop their use of geographical knowledge, understanding and skills to enhance their locational and place knowledge.
