Welcome to Year 3!
Year Three is when the children make the transition from Key Stage One to Key Stage Two. This is an exciting jump for the children as they continue to become more independent. We build on and develop the numeracy and literacy skills that the children have worked on in Key Stage One, such as number facts, times tables, spelling, reading and writing in different styles. Our aim is to start to encourage the children take more responsibility for identifying successes and areas of improvement in their own work.
During Year Three we also have many opportunities for the children to try something new, such as beginning to learn French. We also participate in the Westminster Chorister Outreach Project, which involves specialist music teachers working with our children on singing as a choir, as well as learning to sing parts of the Mass. Throughout Year Three the children are assessed against age related expectations which are used to evaluate their progress and identify their next steps in each subject.
